Welcome to our blog!

This blog is created for us the electorate to have our say & encourage 2 way debate for the future of our families, our children, St Albans, the UK & our planet. We hope you enjoy what we have created & it helps you make a truly informed decision on May 6.

Don't hesitate to take part & ask questions - challenge answers - post comments & vote for the MP job description. Don't be afraid to be controversial - remembering at all times that this is a public blog & as such means that defamatory comments, swearing & rudeness will not tolerated & removed.

MP Job Description

MP's currently don't have a job description to follow. Why should they be any different to the rest of us??

Our proposal for St Albans then is to make our elected MP more accountable to us the people - after all our MP does actually work for us & paid by us! If every constituency across the UK did this would we not have a better & more active political process? Making a better more efficient & effective country?

We suggest our MP keeps us more informed of what they are doing. There are now plenty of free online tools available to achieve this. Cost & distribution is no longer an issue.

We will then have the information to begin to understand in more detail that being an MP is a difficult job. That some of the votes they make are made are careful consideration of the facts. That very difficult decisions are sometimes made in very difficult circumstances.

To publicly understand and appreciate this would then perhaps allow for better public debate; promoting more accurate and balanced reporting so we suffer less spin?

The proposal to St Albans Constituency

We propose therefore that we create a job description for our MP that all the Prospective Parliamentary Candidates in St Albans engage with.  It is of course up to them to engage! By not engaging in this process - what does it say about the prospective Parliamentary candidate?

You decide!

At least when it comes to re election in the future we will then have an idea of what our MP has done for us – how well they have supported the St Albans Constituency & whether they've fulfilled their promises.

You will be able to decide more easily whether you want to keep the then current person or vote for a change.

To achieve this we have created a page on this site that allows you to vote for different aspects of their job description click here

It also allows you to make suggested additions to their job description. The more suggestions and the more creative you get the more closely we can scrutinise their role and performance.

Isn't it time we had more of a say in how our taxes are spent and budgets set?

Thanks for participating here from the St Albans Election 2010 blog team.
